January 2008

2008 IS HERE ...

... and I'm excited. It's shaping up to be a great year for me with a lot happening, both personally and professionally.

Many of you know I have teenaged twins, a boy and a girl. Well, they're seniors in high school and will graduate in the spring. Both have plans of attending college and moving out. Everyone asks me if I'm dreading the moment, and I tell them no. My son has his eye on an apartment five minutes up the road and my daughter will be moving only about twenty-five minutes away to be nearer to campus. I'm thinking that those short distances will mean I get to see them a lot, especially since my daughter is on the shy side, and my son has yet to learn how to wash his own clothes! I promised both kids I'd do something special for them when they graduate. My daughter and I will be going on a cruise to Alaska in June — I like this idea because it's something special for me, too. My son is being more practical (or is that more guy-like) and wants help buying a newer vehicle.

Career-wise, it looks like I'm going to be really busy again. My second Harlequin American, THE FAMILY PLAN, will be out the first week of February. (Read the first chapter here.) This book is close to my heart for several reasons but mostly because I really relate to the heroine. She's the owner of a fledgling construction company and is hired by the hero to build his veterinary clinic. As the co-owner of a construction company for twenty-something years, I can identify with the struggles of a woman trying to succeed in a field dominated by men. Romantic Times gave THE FAMILY PLAN "4 Stars" and the reviewer called it, "A complex and beautifully detailed story about the assumptions people make."

In August, my third Harlequin American will be out, COWBOY DAD. This is the first book in my Bear Creek Ranch series about a western guest resort located in the mountains of Arizona. Bear Creek Ranch has been around for fifty years and is owned by the Tuckers, a prominent local family. Tragedy has brought the hero to Bear Creek Ranch where he tries to find his place in a family that doesn't want him around. I'm happy to announce that the second and third books in this series will follow in 2009.

Lastly, I'm thrilled to report that Gate to Eden took first place in the historical category of The Aspen Gold contest. The book is still available at online bookstores if you've got a hankering for a solid and exciting western historical romance.

That's all for now. I hope each of you have a wonderful 2008 and that your most longed for dreams are realized.

Warmest wishes,

Cathy McDavid
